Current status of nuclear mass formulae and their predictability

A chronological table of mass formulae is first presented as an overview of nuclear mass studies. Then, the current problem on this subject is mentioned, which is in short how to treat both shell and deformation effects consistently. Three typical groups studying along this line are picked out, and their theoretical frameworks are compared. In addition the recent trend of microscopic approach to nuclear masses is mentioned. The numerical comparison is shown among these treatments, and their predictability is also discussed.
